Introduction of Cast steel grit

Cast steel grit spilled & leaked onto floors could cause hazardous walking conditions. Spills & leaks should be vacuumed & cleaned from functioning areas. When cleaning up large amounts of dust, a NIOSH-authorized respirator should be worn. Spilled cast steel grit could be reused & disposed of as a non-hazardous waste. Collected dust from blast cleaning constantly contains impurities from the exterior of the components existing processed, & consequently, the dust may be classified as hazardous waste &, as such, must be disposed of according to appropriate Local, State or Federal regulations.

The cast steel grit is made from reclaimed scrap metal. Other impurities may be present as a result of the scrap metal recovery process, such as chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), or copper (Cu). In rare cases, the concentrations of these elements may surpass 0.1%, however, this does not result in a worldwide categorization of the alloy. Steel shot (spherical) & grit (angular), or shot/grit mixtures. With Abrasives, HPG, Hybrid Shots, Profilium, Prowheelium, Stainium, and Surfium.

Two factors contribute to the tremendous impact-cleaning profiling power of cast steel grit & shot: -

  • All the impact power of a provided particle of shot & grit is concentrated on an almost infinitesimal point of contact, thus developing an incredibly high "pounds per square inch" of crushing power which is much, much more than the highest strength alloy steel plate can withstand;
  • The unbelievably elevated particle count in the abrasive blast stream as many as one to two billion bits could be thrown each minute by some blast wheel units, depending on the size of shot & cast steel grit used. (Shot this "0" size will have approximately 14,000 pellets per pound, while shot this cast steel grit size can have as many as 6,000,000 per pound.)

In all blast-cleaning-profiling-peening applications, control of impact-power and coverage, via proper selection of the factors of velocity and size, is essential to effective and efficient performance. However, these additional steel abrasive characteristics also play an important part in the process:

  • PS Balls Shape: (round shot for a "peened" finish aspect; angular grit for a sharp, angular "etch" finish aspect);
  • Hardness: (four ranges, use depending on the toughness/tenacity of contaminants to be removed; hardness of work profiled or peened).

Cast Steel Angular Grit is constructed by crushing precisely heat-treated steel shot. The preference for hardness determines service qualities.

  • GN Steel Grit is angular when fresh but rounds out quickly with usage. Especially appropriate for descaling applications.
  • GL Steel Grit: While GL grit is tougher than GN grit, it yields sharp edges with usage. Ideal for descaling  & abrasive blasting machine operation for exterior preparation tasks.
  • GH Steel Grit: With maximal hardness, GH stays angular in the mix, doesn't shatter easily, & has a quick, efficient etching action. Ideal for thorough descaling & etched exterior applications. For usefulness especially accompanied by compressed air sand blasting machine equipment.
